The Fall of the Ball

Author(s): Kaye Arnott

Picture Books | Sport and Games

'The Fall of the Ball' is about Finn and his dog Charlie. Finn is given a basketball by his grandparents. He is tired of the usual things he and Charlie do together for fun, so they decide to take up basketball at the local park where there is a basketball hoop.

Of course, Finn thinks that he will be landing hoops straight up! It proves quite a bit harder to control the ball on the ground, let alone shoot into the hoop when they first start playing. An older kid joins in and suggests that it is much harder for Finn because he is short! However, they discover that with practice, some guidance and teamwork, they can improve and have heaps of fun along the way.

Finn and Charlie love going to support their local basketball team and the ball becomes one of their favourite toys.

The story is written in rhyme and easy to read aloud. The author and illustrator are from Palmerston North, New Zealand.

Product Information

Kaye Arnott lives in Palmerston North, New Zealand. This is her fourth children's picture book. Kaye has always enjoyed writing in rhyme and has carried this on in the latest book. The story was written and illustrated in 2015 but has been shelved until now. Kaye has never played basketball but used to take her two sons to watch the basketball in Palmerston North and enjoyed the whole experience of supporting one's local team and being immersed in the hype and excitement of the game. It has been most enjoyable making this story come alive.
