Ko Kuma Mo Feke (The Mouse and the Octopus Tongan Language)

Author(s): Lisala Halapua; Sitiveni Halapua

Tonga | Pūrākau: Māori Myths & Legends

This picture book is a Bi-Lingual (Tongan/English) edition of The Mouse and the Octopus.

An old Tongan fable about a mischievous mouse and an unwitting octopus as reimagined by Lisala Halapua, has been translated into Tongan by Sitiveni Halapua. An origin story, the illustrations take the reader from a Tongan forest to the edge of a fringing reef. The story is a parable to teach fishing lure design and exemplifies the knowledge contained within island communities.

The English language edition of The Mouse And The Octopus, the first book in the Island Fables Series, was a finalist in the 2016 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.
