Only a very special boy like 8 year old Todd would recognise the possibility of friendship with a gigantic coconut crab. But he does, and on a tropical island, where both of them are rather lonely, they form a most unusual bond. 

Learning to understand each other, and trying various activities together, leads to all sorts of entertaining adventures. As other children join in, they get a new perspective too, and discover what respect and loyalty can achieve. 

Coco Crab, ugly and forbidding at first glance, seems an unlikely hero, but he becomes one.
